🌱 Connecting People of All Abilities to Nature, Purpose, and Community
At Lucky & Blessed Fishing (LABF), environmental stewardship is more than an activity — it’s a core part of our mission. We believe that everyone, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to care for the outdoors, learn from nature, and contribute to a healthier Chesapeake Bay watershed.
Through year-round programs, volunteer-driven projects, and strong community partnerships, LABF empowers participants to build confidence, develop new skills, and make a lasting impact on the environment.
❄️ Winter Outdoor Education & Stewardship Program
During the winter months, many adults with disabilities face increased isolation and reduced access to meaningful activities. LABF’s Winter Outdoor Education Program changes that by bringing participants outdoors to explore nature, learn environmental concepts, and participate in hands-on stewardship projects.
Each winter session includes:
-
Guided nature education with park naturalists
-
Adaptive opportunities to explore wildlife, habitats, and conservation
-
Stewardship activities like litter pickup, trail care, and environmental observation
-
Social connection and community engagement during the most isolating months of the year
Our winter program ensures that learning, purpose, and connection continue all year long — even when fishing season is over.
🌳 Restoration Partnerships
LABF proudly partners with local and regional environmental organizations to give our participants meaningful ways to protect and restore the natural spaces we love.
Watershed Cleanups
Throughout the year, LABF hosts and joins cleanup events where participants of all abilities can safely engage in:
-
Litter removal
-
Stream and shoreline cleanups
-
Park beautification
-
Conservation learning
-
Team-based environmental impact
These projects not only protect local ecosystems but also create opportunities for teamwork, leadership, and independence.
Tree Planting & Habitat Restoration
Through collaborations with groups like Green Trust Alliance, our participants help restore shoreline health, plant native trees, and improve habitats at parks across Maryland — including our favorite fishing spots like Southwest Area Park. These activities build environmental awareness, confidence, and community pride.
🎣 Outdoor Recreation With Purpose
Fishing is where our mission begins — but environmental stewardship is where it grows. By blending recreation with conservation, LABF teaches participants to respect the waters, wildlife, and parks that make our programs possible.
Our participants learn:
-
The importance of healthy habitats for fish and wildlife
-
Sustainable fishing practices
-
How clean environments support safe and inclusive outdoor experiences
-
Their own role as environmental protectors and community contributors
💙 Inclusion Through Stewardship
We are proud to create adaptive, accessible, and meaningful stewardship experiences for individuals with different abilities. Every cleanup, tree planting, or nature program is designed so participants can contribute safely and confidently — building skills, friendships, and a stronger connection to the world around them.
🌿 Join Us in Caring for Maryland’s Outdoors
Whether planting trees, restoring shorelines, cleaning local parks, or learning about winter wildlife, LABF participants and volunteers are helping create a greener, healthier, and more inclusive Maryland.
Together, we’re not just enjoying the outdoors — we’re protecting it for future generations.
